“Some members of the Edmond Running Club have set their own Saturday training schedule to coincide with meeting around the training table.
This group of dedicated runners meets rain or shine for a run around the Quail Creek area of north Oklahoma City, and then stops for breakfast at Mimi’s Cafe on Memorial Road.
“We’ve been doing this for a couple of years,” said Ted Withrow, who started running in 2004. “We like to get started normally at 7 a.m. In the summer we might move that to 6:30 a.m. because it’s so hot.”
The group is made up of about a dozen runners of all ages and abilities. They are mostly professional people including financial planners, an assistant district attorney and a psychiatrist.
“We train for the Oklahoma Memorial Marathon every year,” Withrow said. “Some of us do the marathon. Some of us do a half marathon.”
Jud Temple, a retired law professor, said he was training for the White Rock marathon in Dallas when he decided to join the Edmond Running Club.
“I enjoy the social interaction, the ongoing encouragement the club provides to maintain a healthy running lifestyle, and the challenge posed by the club’s many marathoners to keep trying to run that impossible distance,” he said.
Withrow, an insurance agent and financial adviser, said many members of the group train on their own during the week, but meet at Mimi’s on Saturday.”
